The big race at
Navan on Sunday is a Novice Hurdle which features the really likeable Andy Dufresne. He looks to be a top-notch prospect but will be a restrictive short price from a punting point of view.
In any case, he faces a very useful rival in Latest Exhibition who was second in a Grade Two behind the very useful Abracadabra at Navan.
His presence makes it far from straightforward for Andy Dufresne who should win but may have to fight.
I have four selections for Sunday spread across three tracks. Best of luck.
This maiden hurdle looks to be at the mercy of the Willie Mullins-trained selection whose form is way superior to his rivals.
He can boast a second place behind Tornado Flyer in the Champion Bumper at Punchestown in 2018 and, off a very long absence, he was an excellent second at Naas on his hurdling debut in Naas.
He was a bit fresh and keen in that race but, having made the running, stuck to his task to finish second in a race where the first three at least look potentially useful.
He wears a hood for the first time in the hope that he will settle a little better and I believe he will make all and win well.
I never thought I would ever tip this horse given that he appears to be on a steady decline. However, this is a massive drop in grade for him on his return to hurdling and in a handicap off a mark of 148, he should be supported.
He was a Grade One winner as a novice hurdler and has been up against Grade Novice Chasers over fences.
There has been little let up for him and it is not surprising if his confidence is shot. This should serve as a welcome drop in class and as long as he retains most of his ability, he looks sure to go well here.
He will certainly find this to be his easiest task for a couple of years.
I was really taken by this Stonific’s debut effort over hurdles at Sedgefield. He finished second to Induno but shaped like the best horse in the race. He made a big move forward down the back straight to get in touch with the leaders having been held up and then had to switch before the final hurdle as the winner wandered.
The fact he was able to run all the way to the line given that big mid-race move was more than creditable and if his effort is unleashed later in the day here, his flat speed should see him prevail.
Richard Johnson retains the ride which should be seen as a positive sign.
The angle in with this selection is that he looks set to get an easy lead out in front and will be hard to catch.
His chasing debut at Exeter - when fourth to Notachance - was a taking effort and with that run behind him, he will take a fair bit of catching here.
He led at Exeter and jumped really well before getting tired and being headed two out.
That was his first run for eight months and I am taking the view that he blew up. He will strip fitter for that run and with seemingly no rival here expected to force the pace, he can bowl along in front and make all the running.
