Breeders' Cup Mile target for York runner-up Lake Forest

Lake Forest was second to Notable Speech at York last time out
The William Haggas-trained Lake Forest will run in the Coolmore Mile at Keeneland on October 3 ahead of the Breeders' Cup Mile back there later in the month.
The Lennox Stakes winner attempted to make history when turned out the following day in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but was unable to land a telling blow after meeting trouble in running.
However, he soon bounced back to form when a gallant two and three quarter lengths second to Notable Speech in the Group One City Of York Stakes last month, a run which delighted connections and booked his place on the plane to Kentucky.
Patrick Veitch, representing owners Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy, told Tuesday’s Nick Luck Daily Podcast: "Lake Forest will go to the Coolmore Mile at Keeneland and then, all being well, will stay out for the Breeders' Cup Mile.
"His form in the City of York Stakes have been massively boosted, not just by the winner, but horses behind like Ten Bob Tony and Zavateri, so it looks very, very strong form.
"We felt the ground was slower than ideal that day. I'm not saying we'd have beaten him [Notable Speech], but we certainly think on faster ground we'd have been a lot closer.
"He has to prove he gets the mile, but the sort of two-turn mile out there is going to give him the best possible chance. We think he'd be an interesting runner out there."
