I hope you all had a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas.
There was some tremendous action at Kempton on Boxing Day and it certainly ranks as one of the best Boxing Day cards I can remember for some time.
Thursday’s card there is also excellent and I have four selections for you .
I think the Bangor race in which this horse finished second in last time out is a race to be positive about, and as the runner-up there, I have to be with this horse.
He was beaten by Nelson River who has won since over hurdles and for a long time at Bangor, he travelled much better than the winner.
This speed-favouring track will suit him, as will the decent ground which he enjoyed when racing on the flat.
He is a solid 7-4 shot to win the opener.
This six-year-old mare was in the process of running a huge race when falling two out at Newbury in the Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle.
That was her first run after a wind operation and she travelled strongly throughout.
I suspect if she had not fallen, she would have been at least second there and although she was previously untested over three miles, she certainly shaped as if she will get the trip.
She is back in a handicap here and back against her own sex which makes her a compelling bet.
I think there is plenty of mileage in this horse over fences off his rating of 144.
Harry Cobden, who executed waiting tactics to perfection to win the King George, was too aggressive on this horse last time at Newbury.
I firmly believe that, given a more patient ride, he would have gone close to winning and Cobden, buoyed by his big-race success, will surely be a lot more patient this time.
This strong traveller would be a decent back to lay prospect, if you like to play that way. Alternatively, back him at a generous 6-1.
In a wide-open finale, I think it is worth taking a chance with this horse who is 12-1. He is relatively lightly raced but showed plenty of ability when taking a handicap hurdle at Ayr in April.
He seemed to bounce off the good ground he encountered there and with conditions drying all the time at Kempton, he will have conditions very much to suit.
I think, after a lay-off, he may well have needed his recent run at Wincanton and, with that under his belt, he looks sure to run well here.
