1.30 Leicester: Dashing Dick
William Stone’s veteran performer may not be quite the force he was at eight years of age, but he has never run in a grade this low and has been running reasonably well on recent starts.
He went over a mile last time at Yarmouth, a trip that he has never won at and will be much better suited by a drop back down in distance at Leicester where he is a course and distance winner.
Even though there is plenty of pace in this race, I would be surprised if Dashing Dick cannot be comfortable on the lead against this low standard opposition.
William Stone had a couple of winners from his small yard last week and clearly has his string in good form.
3.51 Leicester: Brummell
Brummell goes best on turf over the stiffest of five-furlong tests with victories at Beverley, Hamilton and Pontefract, and he will no doubt be perfectly well suited by racing at Leicester.
Julie Camacho’s five-year-old gelding has bagged a good draw in stall 1 and is in pretty good form, and possibly should have won at Beverley last time out where he had to sit and wait too long for a gap to appear. With a clear run through, he has a clear chance off the same mark.
5.08 Brighton: Dontspoilasale
Although he is an habitual slow starter, Dontspoilasale can be excused a poor start last time on account of the horse in the stall next to him getting very upset.
A regular winner in Ireland he has largely gone off at very big prices since coming over to these shores but there was money for him last time out so connections must have been disappointed.
The gelding is a stone below his latest winning mark and is clearly felt to be ready to win. A glance at the market is advised with all this yard’s runners but I would be surprised if today wasn’t a going day.
