Katie Midwinter's tips: selections at Sandown, Thirsk and Goodwood

Stuart Williams-trained Holi Scarlett performed well in a higher class handicap when last seen on the July Course, outrunning odds of 25-1 to place in third behind Havana Sprite on that occasion.

From an unchanged mark of 72, but without the 7lb claim of Olivia Haines with Sean Levey taking over in the saddle, the daughter of Bungle Inthejungle could make the frame once again. She's still relatively unexposed in handicap company, 8lb higher than when getting off the mark on handicap debut at Nottingham earlier this summer, and there could be further improvement to come from her.

Having gained some valuable experience to date, including when lining up in the competitive 24-runner Newbury sprint in her penultimate start, Holi Scarlett should make her presence felt from her current rating and holds each-way claims as she bids for a second career win.

In the penultimate race at Thirsk, a 7f handicap, Perfect Part could be worth keeping onside as she bids to return to the winners' enclosure for the first time since a shock debut success at odds of 125-1 over two years ago. She has put in a number of competitive performances since then, including in Listed company, but has often been unlucky during her races.

On reappearance this term, the Mehmas filly finished a good fourth at odds of 50-1 in a competitive 22-runner Doncaster handicap, before performing well twice at this venue, including over this distance, in May. She put in a promising effort in fifth at York when last seen, fifth to Machadadorp at 25-1 in the 19-runner contest, and could pose a threat from a mark of 83 under Mikey Sheehy here.

With course experience and on a workable rating, the Brian Ellison-trained filly could finally strike once again and warrants consideration having often caught the eye this term.

Romantic Spirit is one to note for David Menuisier in the Goodwood finale on Friday. She's currently 2lb lower than her last winning mark, when beating Aiming High by three-quarters-of-a-length at Southwell last autumn, and, although she hasn't been at her best this year, she could be worth keeping the faith in.

The four-year-old filly has four wins to her name from 18 starts and proven form over the distance. She could find a resurgence from a lower mark in the hands of 5lb claiming Guy Mitchell in this contest for the amateur jockeys, and is one to note for a local trainer.
