Lost Boys, who looked such a progressive horse when winning at Royal Ascot, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Trained by David Menuisier, he was bought by Wathnan Racing after winning the London Gold Cup at Newbury and defied a 7lb higher mark in the Golden Gates at Ascot.
However, he is due to be out of action for some considerable time.
“Lost Boys is a fabulous horse and gave us one of the highlights of our week. James McDonald was extremely bullish about his future,” said Wathnan’s racing adviser Richard Brown.
“This is obviously unwelcome news and very disappointing for us all, especially David and his staff. But the prognosis is good, and he’ll get the very best care on his road to recovery.
“Gregory and Paborus have both recently returned with big-race wins after a year on the sidelines, and we’ll be doing everything we can to bring Lost Boys back better than ever.”
