While most eyes were on Aidan O’Brien’s British Champions Day A-team at Ascot on Saturday, the master of Ballydoyle enjoyed a fabulous day alongside Wayne Lordan on home soil, joining forces for six winners at Leopardstown.
The 213-1 six-timer saw them land all but one of the races on the Dublin track’s card and included both Group Three features as Wall Street (4-7 favourite) edged out Zarak Pasha to land the Group Three Eyrefield Stakes and Capability Brown (100-30) made all in the Killavullan Stakes.
It is the second year running O’Brien has won six races at this fixture, but with Lordan partnering all of them the trainer-jockey combination became the first to win six races at one meeting in Ireland or Britain under either code.
With O’Brien busy saddling the likes of Group One-winning Minnie Hauk at Ascot, stable representative Chris Armstrong said: “It’s a magnificent day. For Wayne to get six winners, and six winners for the stable, is incredible.
“We were lucky at this meeting last year, we had six as well. The horses are in form, they are running well. We had some lovely winners today with the maidens and the ones in the Group races. It’s a day to savour.
“Minnie Hauk topped it off in Ascot. Across the two tracks, it’s been a stellar day.”
