1.55 York: Frankies Dream

I am hoping Jennie Candlish can have a good afternoon here and at Newcastle and that Frankies Dream can kick things off for the yard.
The four-year-old is an exasperating horse to back as he pulls hard and has to be steered through runners to ideally get up close home. I have suffered backing him the last twice and feel he could easily have won on both occasions with even a tiny bit more luck in running. It falls on Clifford Lee to deliver him but I do feel he has a decent draw on this occasion and might well be suited by a furlong shorter trip in a fast-run race here.
I am pretty confident that the place money is safe and, given the hot form of the yard, this could be the chance for Frankies Dream to get the win.

2.40 Newcastle: Chemistry

I tipped this stayer as an outsider to get into the first six in the Chester Cup in May which he failed to do, but his run at a track that didn’t suit him wasn’t without hope in my view. He finished ninth but wasn’t knocked about once it was clear he wasn’t going to figure in the finish.
Before and after that run he has done well in modest novices hurdles and I suspect he has had this consolation race as a target since Chester. He looks a real stayer and the long straight of Newcastle will suit him better (he has actually run a promising fourth under a claimer over course and distance).
Jennie Candlish has had four winners from her last 10 runners and is in hot form at present, and with this race representing a big drop down in class from the Chester Cup I feel Chemistry is once again worth chancing off a falling mark.

3.15 Newcastle: Tribal Star (E/W)

This very consistent gelding was too free under a 7lb claimer last time which probably explains a rare poor run, and reunited with his usual jockey Adam Caffrey I expect another good run.
Tribal Star has done well on both his recent English raids, finishing a decent fourth at the big Easter meeting over course and distance, and then getting beaten less than a length in the consolation Chester Plate.
Adrian McGuinness’ six-year-old may not have the potential for improvement that some (though not many) might have in this field, but he looks good for a place at big odds. I am not concerned about his wide draw as a glance through recent renewals has many very high-drawn horses going very close.

4.50 York: Pearl Eye

Pearl Eye ran third in a very strong 0-85 handicap over nine furlongs here a couple of weekends ago, and though this amateur riders’ event is officially only a 5lb lower grade race it is a much less competitive affair.
A strong pace which seems very likely will suit Jim Goldie’s six-year-old gelding very well, and Kayleigh Williams has already ridden a winner and a placed runner from just two rides and looks a competent rider, so a good run looks assured.
