Needle Match has had the fastest final furlong in three of his four races; the exception being when out of his depth in the 2000 Guineas.

He had been an eye-catching fourth in the Greenham before his run at Newmarket and his staying-on second to Isaac Newton in the Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown last time also had merit.

His debut win was gained on heavy ground and William Haggas’s Actual versus Expected at Haydock is 1.51 after a treble at the track on Thursday.

A disappointing turnout for a high-value handicap, but it looks a great opportunity for the progressive Thunder Call to get his head back in front. 

At 11-8, he's not a big price, but I'm still happy to back at odds against in what doesn't look a strong race. His form is strong and progressive, and all year he's been shaping like there's even more to come stepping up to seven furlongs, which he's now granted. An entry in the Group One Champions Sprint underlines the regard in which he's held, and I think he can win this comfortably before going onto better things.

Kissmehoneyhoney is very much the outsider of the William Haggas pair in this Haydock feature but I cannot see why the price disparity is so great and with bookies paying extra places, this lightly raced filly could be value at around 20/1.

The 4yo won her only start last season battling well to beat a next time out winner and subsequent Group placed horse into third.

She reappeared in a Listed event at Goodwood but wasn’t up to that level, but last time out ran well enough in a minor event at Hamilton.

She may not ever be a star for the yard but if taking after her dam she will improve with age, distance and perhaps most importantly very soft ground. I don’t believe she is not going to better than a 79 rated horse and she can definitely nab a place here.

This hasn't been a happy hunting ground for favourite backers of late, with four double-figure priced winners in the last five seasons, but Almeraq looks likely to bounce back now tackling soft ground. The Jubilee winner has been given a nice break to get over his July Cup flop and prepare for an autumn campaign which can get back on track here. 

Last year's one-two Big Mojo and Kind Of Blue are respected, with both having also had this as a target for some time.

I tipped this horse at Tramore and drew some hope after interviewing her trainer pre-race but she still went off 25-1.

She went from looking a certainty to place at worst to finishing second-last after seeming to stumble badly coming into the final bend.

Trainer Kevin Coleman was worried the track might not have suited then and duly found probably the least similar track in Ireland here. Major each-way appeal.
