Straight to the Breeders’ Cup the plan for Big Mojo

Big Mojo will head straight to the Breeders’ Cup having finished third in the defence of his Sprint Cup crown at Haydock.

Mick Appleby’s four-year-old found the testing ground all against him, but did well in the circumstances behind impressive winner Almeraq.

He had returned to winning form in Ireland on his penultimate start after a disappointing start to the season, but Appleby will be heading to Keeneland with optimism having chosen to bypass Champions Day.

“He’s come out of the race really well and he’ll head for the Breeders’ Cup now,” said Appleby.

“That’s the plan, it has been for a while. He ran well to a point at Haydock, but he doesn’t like soft ground. For him to finish third was a good run.

“You can get results like that with them strung out when the ground is like that. Had it been better I think we’d have gone very close.

“He won’t run before the Breeders’ Cup, he’ll go straight there.

“The way Paul (Teasdale, owner) was talking at the weekend it looks like he might be coming back next year too which is great.”
