7.16 Southwell: Pickersgill
Pickersgill has run at Southwell three times since she moved over here from Ireland and has won one and been second on the other occasion.
Iain Jardine’s mare was beaten just half a length over course and distance last time and runs off the same mark again, so looks set to go very close.
Prominent racers generally do well over this trip at Southwell and looking at those drawn close by, it looks very possible the Pickersgill will attempt to make all. A good run looks assured.
8.26 Southwell: El Burhan
This four-year-old New Bay gelding races on the all-weather for the first time and steps up in trip, but those changes could suit him and bring about improvement.
El Burhan hasn’t done too badly so far, especially on an easy surface, but he is related to horses that have stayed this trip, so I don’t envisage a problem with the distance.
He has been beaten every time he has run on fast turf ground and the switch to Tapeta could be a well overdue experiment.
9.00 Southwell: Meet Me In Meraki
Meet Me In Meraki might be able to dictate the pace here and land an overdue success.
He has run well since he had a summer break and finished placed in two slightly higher grade handicaps on his latest runs.
He would have finished a little closer but for a bump in the closing stages last time, and Liveinthelight, who beat him, has already gone in again since. The form looks pretty strong.
