Dave Nevison's Saturday tips: best bets at Sandown and Goodwood

Ryan Moore has done well with Completely Random, going close in both the Wokingham and Stewards' Cup this season.

Daniel Muscutt takes over here and the gelding looks to have lucked out with the draw in stall 4. I am hopeful of a good run through despite the obvious Goodwood factor which is always a concern.

I don’t feel that a 2lb higher mark will be of any consequence is this race and only a significant deterioration in the going would worry me as the Charlton runner isn’t proven on very soft ground.

Alcarath acts on decent ground, but the forecast rain over Friday and Saturday will move conditions firmly in the Alan King-trained gelding’s favour.

Alcarath is relatively lightly-raced but the four-year-old put up a really good performance when last seen in June, finishing third in a strong handicap over course and distance.

It is not difficult to envisage further improvement and, given the form of the stable, I am not concerned about him not being seen since that run, and hopefully Oisin Murphy in the saddle will be a positive. 

It is quite surprising that Michael Bell has never tried Tony Montana over this trip since he joined the yard. The gelding often seems to finish very well in very competitive events and this extra two furlongs could suit him well.

The five-year-old ran a promising race over this course and distance when with the Gosdens and can appreciate the step up in trip, especially as this race, while billed as a 0-105, has a top weight rated just 96 and might actually be less competitive than races he usually runs in. Softening ground would not be a problem.

Hypnotised is still a maiden, but looks the improver in a race largely involving exposed handicap sprinters.

Harry Charlton’s three-year-old ran very well over this course and distance on his penultimate start and then went on to be narrowly beaten at Newbury last time where he may have won if he had kept straight under pressure close home.

A strongly-run race is likely this afternoon which will suit Hypnotised ,who looks to need a stiff five furlongs such as this. Harry Charlton is in very good form and a win for this gelding is overdue.
