12.40 Aintree: Stick To The Board

Tipster: Andy Stephens (RaceiQ nap of the day).

Best odds: 5-6.

Will not be much of a price but looks banker material after shaping like a certain future winner on his hurdling bow at Chepstow, when he got a Jump Index score of 7.3 and gained almost ten lengths in the air.

Sam Twiston-Davies' A/E at Aintree is 1.38 and I imagine he will keep things simple from the front.

1.15 Aintree: Javert Allen

Tipster: Alex Scott.

Best odds: 4-1.

Jane Williams has not saddled a winner for a couple of weeks but her horses have been running well in defeat and it looks a matter of time before that frustrating run comes to an end.

The yard has several chances on Saturday and the best betting prospect looks to be Javert Allen.

The seven-year-old is generally a sound jumper and goes well fresh, plus he was fourth in a stronger renewal of this race last year off a 3lb higher mark.

He ended last season when disappointing over this course and distance after being strongly supported in the market, but the front-runner's race was effectively over at the start.

It is best to draw a line through that effort and better can be expected here, with his record over two miles otherwise very encouraging. He looks a value alternative to the short-priced favourite at odds of 4-1.

1.45 Aintree: Mange Tout

Tipster: Johnny Ward.

Best odds: 10-3.

This looks the time to get her. Alexei has been off since Aintree and, although the filly has too, she was declared to run last weekend and 10-3 looks worth taking.

3.00 Aintree: Our Guide

Tipster: Dave Nevison.

Best odds: 7-2.

Jamie Snowden is probably the trainer currently in the best form in the country with five winners from his last ten runners at the time of writing, and only one of those runners not making the frame.

Our Guide contributed two wins in minor events in the summer but has improved since and ran really well when third in the Tote Gold Trophy ay Chepstow which has proven to be one of the strongest handicaps of the season so far with three next time out winners.

The handicapper has raised the five-year-old just one pound but his improvement over hurdles so far has been pretty linear and at a much steeper incline than a pound at a time. It is very possible that he could well improve significantly here as he looks like he will be very well suited by this step up to three miles. He was staying on very well over two and a half miles last time and the downhill finish at Chepstow would not have been ideal.

If we couple the positives for Our Guide an improving young stayer against pretty much all of his rivals here. Age, distance, freshness or otherwise and the relatively fast ground all seem to be against this field to a greater or lesser effect. He looks a strong bet to win this.

3.25 Doncaster: Alfred Wincham

Tipster: Martin Dixon.

Best odds: 11-2.

Alfred Wincham is a very lightly-raced four-year-old and he looked a completely different proposition on his first try on soft ground at York a month ago. He couldn’t have won more easily, travelling strongly and quickening clear readily to win by eight lengths.

The handicapper has put him up 13lb for that, but even so, I think he’s very much one to keep on the right side of on soft ground.

He’s a strong stayer. His York win came over a little further than this, and he’s already won a bumper. I don’t see the drop in trip as a problem, though. With a big field, a strong gallop likely and fairly testing conditions at the back end of the season at Doncaster, this should be a proper test of stamina.

He’s improving quickly, and he has a very good pedigree that he’s only just starting to live up to. It’s not out of the question that he turns into a stakes-class performer under these conditions.

This is a very competitive race on paper, but everything looks right for him to take another step forward, and he’s very much a handicapper to keep on side on soft ground.
