The door to Galileo Gold possibly running in the Investec Derby is to be left open until after the horse has run in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh on Saturday week.
Connections are set to keep the 2000 Guineas hero in the premier Classic at the next forfeit stage, which is the day before his engagement in Ireland.
The Derby appeared to be ruled out after discussions and pedigree tests suggested the Hugo Palmer-trained colt had little chance of staying the mile and a half of the Derby.
However, owners Al Shaqab Racing do not want to "shut the door completely".
"We just want to leave all options open because you never know. If he happens to go to Ireland and win impressively, who knows?" said Harry Herbert, racing advisor for the owners.
"Just to shut the door completely is not something Sheikh Joaan (of Al Shaqab) wants to do and that's absolutely fine.
"I'm not saying he's going to run in the Derby. That's not going to happen unless lots of pieces of the jigsaw fall into place and even then he may not run.
"It's purely keeping everything open which is perfectly sensible."
