2026 King George Qatar Stakes: runner-by-runner guide and 33-1 tip

Series of respectable efforts last season, including two lengths sixth in this race behind JM Jungle, but looked an improved model (following a winter gelding operation) when making a winning reappearance in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket. 

Missed the break but still managed to follow up in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock, beating American Affair by a length, and then undone by the draw when first of seven in his group but only 10th overall in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. 

A leading player on that form, and whilst his 3 lb penalty is not ideal, it's probably manageable. 

Put it all together last season, graduating from top-level handicaps to the top table with a last-gasp win in the King Charles III. 

Not seen for the rest of that season due to injury, and looked rusty over six furlongs on his return at York in May. However, better effort when chasing home Night Raider at Haydock, and took a step back in the right direction at York last time following no sort of effort when defending his Royal Ascot crown. 

Easy to see this race suiting, but a little to prove at present and lacks experience of this sort of unique track. 

Speedy front-runner who ran with great credit when tackling two races in a week here 12 months ago, third in the Stewards' Cup on the latter occasion. 

Has progressed again this term, winning first two starts before coping well with the rise in grade, including fourth in the Temple and fifth in the King Charles III.  

Another fine effort when third in the Group Two Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh since, and should again make them all go from the front assuming this doesn't come too quick. 

Record at this meeting reads 1-5-1, with most recent success coming when beating She's Quality by a neck in this contest 12 months ago. 

Seems to be coming to hand with each run this season, well held behind Night Raider on first two outings but better since, including when three places and nearly a length ahead of American Affair at York last time out. 

Respected. 

Swedish-trained sprinter who has won his last three small-field events at Jagersro (all-weather) and Bro Park. 

Hard to assess that form in the context of this race, though well-beaten seventh in a Group 3 on the dirt at Meydan in February suggests he is likely to struggle. 

Six-year-old who has been around the block (started off as a miler but dropped to sprinting aged five) but has been a credit to connections. 

Seemingly better than ever this season, rising out of handicaps thanks to fine efforts at York and Epsom that have both worked out well. 

Third to Rumstar and second to Cover Up (one place ahead of Jakajaro) since, and no reason why he won't run well once again. Probably vulnerable from a win perspective, though. 

Wins last term included two defeats of She's Quality (who went on to be second in this race), and has performed with credit in two of his three starts this season, half a length behind Night Raider in the Palace House on the first occasion. 

Another who put a poor run at Royal Ascot behind him, this time when picking up Partisan Hero and co in the Coral Charge at Sandown earlier this month, and a repeat of that effort would put him right in the mix once more. 

Looked set to be a force to be reckoned with for some time in 2024 when winning the King Charles III and then going down only by a short-head in this race under a penalty. 

Mixed performances thereafter, but bounced back to form last season in blinkers with wins in the Nunthorpe and the Prix de l'Abbaye, though readily held in this race in-between. 

Long way below her best in four starts so far this season, though there was a glimpse of light from her seventh in the King Charles III. 

Best to ignore her last run behind Rumstar where she was slowly away and allowed to coast home having failed to get involved, but very hard to have faith in at the moment. 

Experienced mare whose graduation from handicaps to listed/Group races again highlights the fine margins involved.  

Mid-field finish in the King Charles III and York fifth – where she travelled well but didn't pick up as well as those ahead of her - puts her within touching distance, though likely to struggle at the business end.  

Sprang a surprise but looked no fluke about her win in the six-furlong Commonwealth Cup last season, and then looked at home on the track but didn't get as clear a run through as the two ahead of her when third in this race on her next start. 

Four of her five starts since have come back over six furlongs, but hasn't looked the same force, and has something to prove now. Not out of it if back to her best, however. 

Showed his opening mark of 76 to be all wrong when winning by seven lengths on his handicap debut last September, and ran with credit in the face of tough two-year-old assignments in Groups races thereafter. 

Nothing in his form this year to suggest he'd be a big player in this prior to his neck-second at York last time, faring best in a bunch finish of those who lock horns again here. 

Form not overly exciting, mind you, and will need to take another step forward. 

No win since debut last May, though did fill the runner-up spot in three Group races, including the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint Turf at Del Mar. 

Not particularly well-fancied in four starts this season, including the last two, and hard to see him producing a performance of real note. 

Pinatubo – Yourtimeisnow (Charm Spirit)

Series of solid efforts at listed/Group level last term, including two-lengths third to Lady Iman in the Molecomb Stakes at this meeting despite racing keenly out in the lead. 

Change of tactics this term, and produced a good performance on his return to action when picking up some speedy types at York. 

Put a poor effort at Royal Ascot (slow start) behind him when short of room in that bunched City Walls Stakes finish back on the Knavesmire last time. 

Could have the race run to suit and likely to outrun his long odds as a result. 

Kept extremely busy last year, her 12 runs including second – one place ahead of Dickensian - in the Molecomb here. 

Again seems to be handling her racing well this term, her best effort coming when landing a fillies' listed event at Ayr last month. 

Needs to improve again now taking on the males once more. 

Starspangledbanner – Main Desire (High Chaparral)

Ran on well when landing the two-year-old fillies' conditions race at this meeting last term and improved again on her last two starts last term, winning a listed contest at HQ in late-October. 

Big step up on first two starts this season - the first of which came in the 1000 Guineas - when only beaten a head (at 50-1) by Venetian Sun in the Commonwealth Cup last month, though not as good when only seventh behind Wednesday's winner Flora Of Bermuda in a York Group Three, both runs over six furlongs. 

Capable of bouncing back, but a slight concern over whether she has the speed to cope with this drop back in trip now. 

Horses that were beaten in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot have a good record here - five of the last 12 winners of this ran in that Group 1 sprint- and Night Raider is sure to run well having done as well as he could in this year's renewal. 

Adaptable in terms of tactics, he looks the pick of those towards the head of the betting, but we've seen time and time again that there isn't much of a gap between the different levels of British sprinting. 

As a result, it's worth taking a chance on DICKENSIAN at 33s who rates a good each-way bet. Trained by Kevin Ryan - who won this race in 2011 with Masamah - the three-year-old colt has experience of this course, did well to defy a slow start on his reappearance, and remains open to further improvement having finished with running left when running under a penalty at York last time.
