Top Racing TV pundit Martin Dixon shares his best bets at Newmarket and Redcar on Saturday, with his nap of the day running in the 5.40pm.
12.25 Newmarket: Pendella
Pendella has had a busy season, but she's progressed well through the year, and her form credentials here are rock solid.
Although her win at Beverley came in a small field, she had well-treated rivals in behind, with Tamzan (third) successful next time, and her latest second at York was a tremendous effort to push the well-handicapped Silver Lake close (she was caught by a head in the closing strides).
Silver Lake went on to hose up at Doncaster, whilst the fourth home, Plaid, won by a wide margin at Goodwood next time, so that is very strong form.
I think a 4lb rise underestimates that effort, and she's an uncomplicated ride. Her prominent tactics should also be well suited to the Rowley Mile as well.
3.50 Newmarket: Tryst
On the two occasions Tryst has had the combination of fast ground and seven furlongs this season, she's been successful, and for both of those wins, the rivals in second behind her have won subsequently, so they're solid pieces of form.
She's had excuses on her past two start as she was unsuited by soft ground at Chester, and was poorly placed plus possibly stretched by the stiff mile at Ascot.
She's won on the July course, so I'm hopeful she'll be fully effective on the Rowley Mile. Velvet Rhythm is a dangerous rival if allowed too much rope in front, but I still think Tryst is worth an interest.
5.40 Redcar: Mo Of Cairo (Nap)
Starting the year, I thought Mo Of Cairo would be a progressive three-year-old after he'd improved with pretty much each juvenile outing, including when an excellent second in a competitive nursery last year. However, the season started slowly for him.
A wind operation in the summer seems to have worked the oracle, though, as he's looked back to his best the last twice, and didn't get the clearest passage when second at Musselburgh just three days ago.
He's off the same mark here, and the strong pace that looks likely will suit perfectly. He'll need some luck in running but, granted a smooth passage, I think he'll be hard to beat.
