Middle Park and Dewhurst options for Push The Boat Out

By Racing TV
Last Updated: Sun 6 Sep 2026
The Kodi Bear colt was a surprise winner of a Curragh maiden early last month, but there was no shock about his Group Three success back over the same course and distance last time, where he did well to reel in favourite Great Barrier Reef in the closing stages.
And his trainer Michael O'Callaghan believes that there is plenty more to come from the grey over this trip before moving up in distance later in the campaign.
Speaking on Luck On Sunday, he said: "He had to do it the hard way. Ryan [Moore, on Great Barrier Reef] set the race up for himself and Seamie [Heffernan, rider of Push The Boat Out] had to take back. He's done some quite impressive fractions to catch Ryan.
"Our horse is still learning on the job, but he obviously has a lot of talent and ability."
Ace Stud were clearly impressed, and have subsequently bought the colt, who will likely stay over sprint trips for the time being.
O'Callaghan explained: "Ace stud have purchased all of the horse which is very exciting for us – they've decided to leave him with us.
"He will have an entry for the Middle Park and Dewhurst – we will see how he is over the next few weeks.
"He had the highest speed and fastest furlong [at the Curragh] so I think we will stick to six furlongs for now, but we will discuss it.
"He might get a mile, but so far he has shown a lot of speed - good horses need a lot of speed whtever the trip.
"Physically he's a rangy sort - very athletic, not a big burly sprinter - so we wouldn't be surprised if he got a mile."
