Andy Stephens has three selections for a card that includes Listed action
2.30 CURRAGH: LOUGHREA
Highest Speed: 40.65mph
Latest Final Furlong: 12.06sec (easily best)
Trainer A/E at Curragh: 2.17
Loughrea is thriving on his racing and had Cambridgeshire winner Pierre Royal back in third when winning the Irish equivalent last time.
He’s dropping to seven furlongs but his data reveals he has got plenty of speed and he’s hit the front some way out when winning his races. Trainer Andrew Slattery’s Actual versus Expected here in the past 12 months is an excellent 2.17.
Sindigan and King Cuan are feared most, while course specialist Big Gossey is bound to have his supporters, but the early 3-1 on offer about Loughrea appeals.
3.05 CURRAGH: TRUTH BE TOLD
Highest Speed: 40.67mph
Finishing Speed % Form: 111121
Trainer’s A/E: 1.26
This nine-furlong trip is probably a minimum for Truth Be Told but his numbers have been so eye-catching that we are loathe to ignore him.
He’s had the best Finishing Speed Percentage in five of his past six starts, again putting in great late work in a hot handicap at Leopardstown last time when he had little chance the way things unfolded.
His connections clearly believe he hads a bigger day in him as they had him in the Cumberland Lodge earlier this week before deciding to head here. I'm hoping Billy Lee does not sit too far off the leaders here, with the 13-2 on offering each-way blanket for those who want it.
3.40 CURRAGH: CARLA RIDGE
Draw advantage: 0.45 lengths
Time Index last year: 9.5 (meeting average 7.5)
Latest 0-20mph: 2.62sec (best)
Carla Ridge was dynamic in this race last year when she stormed home by ten lengths despite being only 14th fastest to 20 mph.
She was flying at the finish and won in a time almost 4sec quicker than the RaceiQ Par.
The daughter of New Bay has been absent almost five months since shaping well at Leopardstown, over 7f, but she’s well drawn and you would imagine this race has been on her agenda for a while. Bet365 make her a standout 11-4.
