1.46 Bangor: Speed Davis
Harry Brown has made a good impression in just over 20 rides over jumps this summer, reflected by his RaceiQ Actual versus Expected being an excellent 1.45. He is good value for his 10lb claim against fellow conditional riders.
His boss, Donald McCain, has already put him up in races around this track on a couple of occasions so the young rider should have no problem navigating his way around this tricky course.
His mount here, Speed Davis, won over course and distance in April and after a couple of disappointing runs in the summer the eight-year-old showed signs of coming back to form when returned to this course and distance.
He is 3lb lower than when last successful and well worth a look in a competitive race.
2.46 Bangor: Queen Maeve
Queen Maeve was most progressive in three runs for Dan Skelton last season and ended up breaking her maiden in a Premier Handicap at Sandown’s big finale last April.
She was a 20/1 shot on that occasion but stayed on in great style to collar her drifting stable companion who went off as favourite.
That the four-year-old filly would be suited by stepping up in trip was obvious by that run and it seems highly likely she will find further improvement now that Queen Maeve is racing over 2½ miles for the first time here.
A 5lb rise for winning a prestigious handicap seems remarkably generous for a Skelton runner and this looks a very well-chosen race to start out on her second season.
3.16 Bangor: They Want Me
Donald McCain historically has plenty of winners at Bangor - one of his local tracks – and They Want Me gets the nod to see off two Skelton runners to land what is a very competitive big field novice chase .
They Want Me is described by Timeform as a “good sort and a chasing type” so it looks highly likely he will improve for this switch to fences and given his stable are having winners in October might well be ready to go on his seasonal debut.
The six-year-old is used to racing around this track over hurdles and was runner up here mid-season before finishing off with a 10 length win on his final start.
He runs off a 7lbs higher mark for this chasing debut but that seems a reasonable raise given a wide margin win and if he is to live up to an illustrious chasing pedigree (related to crack northern chasers The Grey Abbey and The Grey Monk) he could easily be well in setting out over the larger obstacles.
