1.45 Ayr: Mutawared
Mutawared is seemingly a perennial miden, but he won’t get many chances better than this race where the opposition all seem to find it as difficult to win as he does.
Since moving to Jim Goldie’s yard, the five-year-old has been pretty consistent and hasn’t run many poor races, including over this trip and on very soft ground.
He was a decent second over a mile and, with his excellent young jockey able to claim against other apprentices, he can finally break his duck.
3.30 Ayr: Topwarrior
This southern raider looks the obvious one here have returned to form in no uncertain times last time out when finishing second over five furlongs at Hamilton.
He certainly could have done with an extra furlong on that occasion as he was staying on very nicely at the death. Ralph Becket’s gelding came good in a handicap last October on heavy ground and these conditions certainly bring out the best in him.
He remains on the same mark today and needs to win this before he goes back up the weights.
4.05 Ayr: One Night Thunder
I have been predicting a return to form for Gemma Tutty’s five-year-old gelding for a while, so it is a little annoying I didn’t tip him up for the course and distance win last time after being with him in this column the previous twice.
One Night Thunder has a 5lb penalty to shoulder here, but is running in a lower grade race and could easily outclass these rivals now he has returned to form. He is still off a mark much lower than he started out the season on.
