3.40 Perth: Tanking Along
Tanking Along goes very well for Brian Hughes and looks to have a very good chance of following up a recent Sedgefield victory in this similar grade handicap.
The seven-year-old goes best when dictating from the front and looks likely to get an uncontested lead. He is 4lb higher than last time, but he had the race fully won a mile out and was only closed down late in the piece.
Sedgefield is definitely Tanking Along’s track, but he has run very well at Perth over hurdles and I anticipate a strong run.
4.15 Perth: Kado Secree
Kado Secree can complete a long-range hat-trick now that he is switched to fences for the first time here. Olly Murphy’s gelding is unbeaten since he was switched to handicaps over hurdles and his latest win came at this track under similar conditions to those anticipated here.
His course form augurs well for a good run over fences, as does the fact that he has won a point-to-point previously, and his dam is closely related to decent chasers.
He will no doubt have been well schooled by Murphy and has the champion jockey Sean Bowen on board for this debut.
7.30 Southwell: New Image
Michael Herrington has already done me a big favour in a sprint handicap this week and he can do me another one here. New Image had been plummeting down the handicap before he joined Herrington recently. His previous win came in a 0-105 Ascot handicap, but he had dropped down to 0-75 grade before winning two sprint handicaps for his new yard.
He has won by narrow margins and the handicapper has not been able to raise him much, and even though on a hat-trick, New Image is on a mark way lower than he was not that long ago.
Given he has immediately found the key to this horse, Herrington must be feeling he can get him much further up the weights this autumn. Both recent wins have come over this course and distance.
