Ryan Moore is looking forward to partnering “really high-class" Constitution River at the Qatar Racing British Champions Day at Ascot on Saturday.
The French Derby and Coral-Eclipse winner has finished third on his last two starts, including when narrowly beaten in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown last month, but may now drop back in trip having been supplemented for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Monday.
Speaking to World Pool, their ambassador Moore explained: “There's a chance he may be a miler and he could go in the mile race.
“He was obviously very good the start of the year, but in the Irish champion he felt like he was going to win at the two [furlong] pole and then he hung to his left and didn't really feel comfortable.
“I still think he's a really high-class horse and I'm looking forward to getting another go on him.”
The rider is excited by a strong book of rides at Ascot’s season-closing extravaganza, and believes that the longer distance of the Champion Stakes could suit Gstaad if connections decide to run him in that race.
“He's been consistent all year - he was third on his previous start in the Moulin and it’s the first time he's been out of the first two,” he explained.
“I think the mile and quick round course at Longchamp was just a little bit too sharp. It'd be interesting to see what he could do stepped up in trip.”
While highlighting the claims of Queenstown in the Long Distance Cup - “He's a consistent horse who always seems to run his race” - Moore is hopeful that a return to Ascot for the Fillies & Mares’ Stakes will see an improved performance from Minnie Hauk who is yet to hit last year’s heights so far this season.
He explained: “She ran respectably in the Arc but it was so slowly run, she was in midfield, and it turned into a sprint which didn't suit her.
“She obviously ran very well in the Prince of Wales’s this year, where she was second to Ombudsman and beat Daryz.
"She would have a big chance.”
